IBAN Checker – Validate Any IBAN Instantly
Validate structure, MOD-97 check digits, and receiving bank details for any European or international IBAN — with zero data sent to external servers.
What the checker verifies
When you paste an IBAN into the input above, our validation engine verifies compliance with international banking standards:
- Country specifications: Validates total character length against the official SWIFT registry (e.g. 22 characters for Germany, 27 for France, 24 for Spain).
- MOD-97 checksum: Performs the ISO 7064 Modulo 97 check on positions 3 and 4 to catch transposed or misspelled numbers.
- National BBAN check digits: Verifies internal national account checksums where defined (such as French RIB keys or Spanish CCC control digits).
- Bank identification: Identifies the bank name and matching SWIFT / BIC code.
If you need to generate an IBAN from local bank details or account numbers instead, use our IBAN calculator.
Is BIC the same as SWIFT?
If you wonder whether is BIC SWIFT the same, yes: BIC and SWIFT refer to the same international bank code. SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) is the global organization that manages the communication network, while BIC (Business Identifier Code) is the standardized 8 or 11 character code format under ISO 9362. In modern banking interfaces, both terms are used interchangeably. You can look up any bank's routing code in our BIC finder.
